Various Projects in Wetlands; Six Properties Bordering the Rideau Canal National Historic Site: 39 Silo Road, 2673 River Road, 1067 Rideau Ferry Road, 802 McVeety's Island, 103 Boat Launch Road, and 449 Indian Lake Road

The owners of six properties bordering the Rideau Canal have proposed to undertake various projects within the mapped wetlands that front their shoreline property. The projects involve placement of permanent fill (ripap) in order to repair and prevent damage to existing shoreline structures, removal of aquatic vegetation, and installation of floating or post-supported docks. Factors considered within the Basic Impact Assessment will include impacts to Species at Risk, the degree of disturbance, and potential impacts to wetland function. A short summary of each project scope is provided below.

39 Silo Road
The property owner proposes to repair and prevent further ice damage to existing shoreline structures by placing a riprap toe at the base of the structures. The total estimated area of rock encroachment on the bed of the canal is 84 ft2 (7.8 m2). In addition, a concrete pad upland of the high water mark will be re-surfaced. The property lies within the Freeman's Bay Wetland Complex Provincially Significant Wetland.

2673 River Road
The property owner proposes to install a new semi-floating dock (with two posts per section sitting on the bed). The finished dock will measure 4 x 24 ft. The property lies within the Rideau River Provincially Significant Wetland.

1067 Rideau Ferry Road
The property owner proposes to remove aquatic vegetation from both sides of an existing dock. Each of these areas measure 15 x 60 ft., for a total area of 1800 ft2 (167 m2). The property lies within a mapped wetland area that has been partially evaluated and partially non-evaluated.

802 McVeety's Island
The property owner proposes to remove the existing dock and install a new floating dock system. The proposed dock dimensions are 18 x 6 ft. oriented perpendicular from shore, with an attached floating finger dock measuring 26 x 8 ft. oriented parallel to shore. The dock will be accessed by a 6' x 8' ramp and will be anchored in place with pre-cast concrete anchor blocks. The property lies within the McLean's Bay Provincially Significant Wetland.

103 Boat Launch Road
The property owner proposes to install a new floating dock system. Due to shallow water conditions the dock is proposed to extend 40 ft. from shore (6 ft. in width), with an attached floating finger dock measuring 26 x 6 ft. parallel to shore. The property owner also proposes to clear a defined area of aquatic vegetation adjacent to the dock. The property lies within the Rideau River Part #4 Provincially Significant Wetland.

449 Indian Lake Road
The property owner proposes to install a new post-supported dock oriented perpendicular from shore, and measuring 24 x 6 ft. The dock will be accessed by a 6' x 8' ramp and will be made out of aluminum with cedar decking. The property owner also proposes to remove aquatic vegetation from a 30 x 100 ft. area adjacent to the dock. The property lies within a mapped wetland area that is labelled non-evaluated marsh.
