Mādahòkì Farm Lodge Expansion and Electrical Upgrades

The site located at 4420 West Hunt Club is a Greenbelt heritage farmstead within the National Capital Commission's (NCC) agricultural real estate portfolio. Today, the property is leased by Indigenous Experiences, a long-term tenant with the mission of sharing land, stories, and food from an Indigenous perspective. The site has become a thriving Indigenous cultural agritourism destination in the National Capital Region.

The 164-acre property currently has 4 main buildings on site: 1) the Riding Arena, 2) the Mamawii Lodge, 3) the Heritage Barn, and 4) the Farmhouse. All of these buildings are currently used by the tenant as part of their programming and operations. The Mamawii Lodge is a 442 m2 wood framed building with medal cladding that was built in the 1970s and was retrofit as a Banquet Hall in 2001. Today, the lodge is used for the Farm's programming and as an office building.

The proposed project involves constructing a single-storey 499 m2 addition to the Mamawii Lodge building. This expansion will function as the property's main meeting area for visitors and will offer cultural exhibits, a larger marketplace and store, space for workshops and arts and crafts, office space for staff, and improved washrooms facilities.

The project also includes electrical upgrades that would supply the Lodge expansion and permit the construction of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the existing parking lot. The existing overhead single phase hydro service will be replaced with a new overhead 3 phase distribution. Additionally, a pad-mounted transformer will be installed next to the parking lot and underground distribution will supply the Lodge expansion and EV chargers. Lastly, a fire hydrant will be installed along with 4 below-ground holding tanks for fire suppression as well as one wastewater holding tank.

Construction is planned to begin in May 2026 and will be completed by December 2026. No impacts to the Farm's programming or site closures are expected as a result of the construction. Additionally, no tree removals are anticipated as part of this project, but any tree removals will be compensated on-site following an approved compensation ratio.

This project is proposed on lands owned by the NCC and is subject to a federal land use, design and transaction approval under the National Capital Act. The NCC must determine whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects in compliance with section 81-91 of the Impact Assessment Act.
