Lower Brewers Swing Bridge Replacement

The overall intent of this project is to replace the superstructure and repair the substructure of the Lower Brewers Swing Bridge. The project will entail: (1) Complete replacement of the wooden swing bridge superstructure including all timber members and connections, (2) Wheels and mechanical components will be refurbished where possible, (3) Complete replacement of the west abutment down to bedrock and rehabilitation of the existing centre pier and east abutment using micropiles, (4) The replacement of the wingwalls, with new wingwalls matching the existing in appearance and layout as closely as possible, (5) A 300mm (12") elevation increase may be incorporated into the design for maintenance purposes. Work activities below the high water mark are anticipated to take place during the non-navigation season from fall 2020 to spring 2021. Impacts to navigation are not anticipated. Terrestrial-based work activities may extend into summer 2021.
