1471 Blair Road (Pineview Golf Course): Construction of Two Irrigation Ponds

Project summary: Pineview Golf Course intends to build two irrigation ponds to make the course more resistant to drought.

How is NCC or NCC land involved:  A tenant is constructing the ponds on NCC lands.

Location: The new ponds will be located on the golf course and landscaped to ensure that they do not detract from existing views and that they are compatible with current land usage.

Impacts to land or neighbours: The proposed project will not significantly change the appearance of the area, as the pond area is shielded by trees and not easily viewed from the road. The design of the ponds enhances the visual appeal of the course while providing a functional benefit in the face of increasingly common extreme weather events. The ponds will help make the property more resilient to climate change.

A small number of trees will be removed to accommodate the pond; however, they will be re-planted in equal or greater number. The pond will be seeded with custom wild plant seed mixes to enhance its value as a natural habitat. The location of the proposed ponds is part of the golf course's existing landscape, between established holes.

The extent of the work will be relatively minimal and is not anticipated to substantially disrupt established land use. Excavation will occur in the winter to minimize damage to the landscape.

Purpose of project: The tenant is constructing two irrigation ponds to provide the course with an additional source of water for landscape maintenance. The ponds will capture rainwater and store it on-course until it is required for irrigation. They will result in substantial savings to the tenant while making the course more resistant to drought.

Timeline: Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2021 and to be completed in February 2021.
