Normandy Hall (FF10) Foundation Repairs, Fort Frontenac

The objective of the project is to stop the foundation leakage which is resulting in damage to interior finishes. The project involves the excavation of approximately 25 linear metres along the north-central foundation wall. New construction includes the application of a new cold fluid-applied waterproofing system along the excavated portion of the concrete foundation wall, redirecting the existing roof drain pipe to discharge onto a new exterior concrete spillway and the installation of a new pre-cast concrete stair and landing.

The soil and groundwater at this property was found to contain elevated concentrations of contaminants, including select metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. A Professional Engineer will be retained to provide quality control services during earthworks and dewatering construction activities. The majority of the excavated soil is anticipated to be returned to the trench following the foundation waterproofing. Any excess soil will be tested for contamination prior to off-site disposal at a licensed receiver site. Water pumped from the excavation trenches will be deposited into a holding tank. The water in the holding tank will be tested for contamination prior to off-site disposal at a licensed receiver site.

This project was reviewed for the potential of encountering archaeological resources. The excavation work will be limited to previously-disturbed areas immediately along the foundation wall. As such, the likelihood of disturbing archaeological resources is negligible.
