Boiler Upgrade

The project is to change the existing fuel boiler to a natural gas one, install a new gas line to the building and excavate and remove the underground fuel tank (22,765 L). The land is owned by Transport Canada and is leased by DND according to an MOU between the two departments.

Building 351 has historically been heated using an oil-fired boiler system which utilized furnace oil, stored in an UST several metres east of the building, as a fuel source. Following a recent review of heating options, it was decided to convert the building to a natural gas system and to remove the boiler and furnace oil UST. It is understood that the UST was installed in 1993, has a capacity of 22,750 L, and is constructed of double-walled fibreglass. The tank is registered with ECCC as EC00009221.
