Campbellford Bridge/Trent River Crossing

The Project, consists of a new two-lane crossing of the Trent River along the Alma Street to Second Street corridor in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The 188-meter bridge will consist of five spans ranging from 32 to 41 meters wide, and four piers. On the west side, the bridge will be accessed by a new roundabout at Grand Road and Alma Street. A pathway between the roundabout and Trent River and beside Grand Road will allow pedestrians to walk along the Trent River and under the bridge. On the east side, the bridge will be accessed by Second Street with an overpass over Saskatoon Avenue.

Three of the four piers will be located in the Trent River, and one will be located east of the Trent River, west of Saskatoon Avenue. The approach from the western side of the Trent River begins east of Pellissier Street. The western abutment will require expansion of the existing western shoreline of the Trent River and involve construction within the Trent River. The approach from the eastern side will begin west of Front Street. The eastern bridge abutment will be located east of Saskatoon Avenue. Concurrent to the design for the proposed bridge and its approaches, the County is also undertaking the preliminary and detailed design for improvements to intersections in the residential areas surrounding the bridge. Since the new bridge is not dependent on the intersection improvements, the intersection improvements are not included in the Project for this Detailed Impact Assessment.

This Project was approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act in June 2017 following a completion of an Environmental Study Report (ESR) under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process. An Addendum to this ESR was issued on March 4, 2021, to document a proposed change to the ESR. Specifically, that the County is now proposing a roundabout for the approach on the western side of the crossing at Alma Street and Grand Road. This Addendum is available for a 30-day commenting period, ending on April 4, 2021. Additional information on the Addendum is available from the project website (www.campbellfordbridge.com).
