Long Island Lock 14 Masonry Rehabilitation

Lock 14, the lowest of 3 flight locks at Long Island Lockstation in Manotick, Ontario, requires rehabilitation in order to stabilize the masonry and reduce deterioration. The proposed masonry repairs include stone replacement, stone repairs, repointing and possible grouting within the chamber of Lock 14. To facilitate this work, the chamber of Lock 14 and the downstream approach walls will be isolated with the use of a coffer dam and dewatered outside of the navigation season. A temporary access road is proposed to be built on the treed slope northeast of Lock 14 and partially onto the bed of the canal to facilitate delivery of equipment and supplies to the work site. Construction for this project is expected to take two years. Mobilization is scheduled for fall 2025, and demobilization is anticipated by spring 2027. During both years of the project, work is expected to commence after Thanksgiving and the close of navigation with construction occurring through the winter and into the early spring months. All work occurring within the lock chamber and the isolated portion of the canal will be demobilized prior to the start of each navigation season.
