New Basketball Courts and Tennis Courts Renovation in Mooney's Bay Park

The project aims to construct a double basketball court with lighting to expand and complement the existing amenities at Mooney's Bay Park. In addition, the existing tennis courts surface will be replaced, and new accessible pathways will connect both the tennis and basketball courts to the existing multi-use pathway.

The proposed project would take place on leased National Capital Commission (NCC) lands and is subject to a federal land use, design, and real estate transaction approval under the National Capital Act.

The work at the tennis courts will include replacing the asphalt surface and extending it 1 meter beyond the existing fencing and improve water drainage. Fencing will be removed and replaced with new fence meeting the latest City standards. An accessible pathway extension connecting the existing MUP pathway will also be included. The project includes the removing and replacing four (4) existing light poles with new concrete poles equipped with LED fixtures. The new basketball courts will feature a double basketball court with an asphalt surface complete with basketball posts, hoops and backboards as per City standards, and fencing as required to prevent basketballs from entering the adjacent multi-use pathway. Four benches will also be placed next to paved surfaces for seating.

The proposed basketball courts will be located south of the existing tennis / pickleball courts, while the tennis courts will be resurfaced in their current location.

The work areas will be fenced during construction. The construction is set to begin in Summer 2026 and is expected to be completed by late fall 2026. Construction work will comply with all municipal by-laws, including noise.

No trees will be removed to accommodate the new courts. Stormwater management measures include a shallow drainage feature around the east and south sides of the basketball court. New trees will be planted to enhance and shade the site.
