Watermain Extension on Old Highway 2, Bells Road and North Street

MBQ is proposing a series of watermain extensions to service existing residents in the community. In total, approximately 3100 m of watermain is proposed to be added to provide a reliable and safe supply of drinking water to existing residents in 4 different locations. Currently, residents in these areas are on private wells, which have been under a precautionary boil water advisory since 2006, and several of which are commonly contaminated with bacteria and experience seasonal water shortages.

  • 700 m of new watermain is proposed along Old Highway 2 between 5989 Ontario County Hwy 2 and 6062 Ontario County Hwy 2, and between 5290 Old Highway 2 and 5348 Old Highway 2.
  • 2200 m of watermain is proposed along the entirety of Bells Road from the Dundas Street Intersection to the Lower Slash Road intersection.
  • 200 m of watermain is proposed along North Street between Mill Street and Brant Street. Construction of the project is expected to start in the summer of 2022 and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023, to allow time for the construction of watermain at multiple locations.

The watermain routes will be contained within existing road allowances, with as much of the route as possible contained within previously disturbed areas with little vegetation, such as gravel shoulders. Directional drilling will be required under the creek on Bells Road, to avoid disturbance of the creek. MBQ owns all the land associated with the project.
