Lansdowne 2.0 - Haul Road at Queen Elizabeth Place near Queen Elizabeth Drive

The City of Ottawa is proposing to build Haul Road at the intersection of Queen Elizabeth Place and Queen Elizabeth Drive. This road will allow construction vehicles to access Lansdowne Park, with minimal traffic disruption, and support vehicular and construction deliveries to a proposed construction project.

The Haul Road will be on NCC land in the same area used during the 2012 Lansdowne Park construction. The Haul Road is subject to a federal land use, design, and real estate transaction approval under the National Capital Act. The Haul Road will cover about 450 square meters.

Scope of Work:

  • Minor excavation (less than 100 cubic meters) to prepare the path for vehicles
  • Adding and compacting granular fill
  • Saving and storing existing pavers and reusable materials for later reinstatement
  • Managing traffic, controlling dust, maintaining cleanliness, and restoring the area to its original condition after construction

Project Timeline:

Construction of Haul Road will begin late 2025. The road will be removed and the area restored once the proposed construction project is concluded, currently scheduled for the end of 2029.

Environmental Effects:

  • Three trees will be removed to build the Haul Road, and new trees will be replanted as per NCC requirements. Two trees are on NCC land, and one is on City land.
  • Detours will be provided in the affected area for the users of multi use pathway.
  • Mitigation measures will be implemented to manage soil, control sediment, prevent erosion and address various other aspects.
