Installation of an Electrical Vehicle Charging System - Warner Building

The building located at 2464 Sheffield Road, also named the Warner building, is a single storey office and warehouse building with a floor area of 5,542 sq.m. The building is more than 50 years old and has not yet undergone a heritage evaluation by the FHRO. At present the building houses the NRCan's Polar Continental Shelf Program and the National Air Photo Library Film Archives.

There are two parking areas for the building. The main lot is to the south of the building and has approximately 39 parking spots. There is also a service area lot on the south side of the building. At present there are two existing Flo level 2 electric vehicle chargers inside the building in the Vehicle Section Garage. These are used for recharging the electric ski-doos stored within the warehouse.

This project is to install electrical infrastructure for future electrical vehicle charging stations. This project will help support the objectives of the government's greening strategy to transition the vehicle fleet to plug-in electric and hybrid vehicles. PSPC's Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy was developed to identify actions to reduce GHG emissions from its fleet and facilities by 40%. Two existing fossil fueled fleet vehicles are scheduled to be replaced by two new pickup truck type EV fleet vehicles.

March 29, 2026 – The public comment period on the project is closed. The authority is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
