Dredge of Rideau Canal Sediment at Pirate Cove Marina, 4340 Rideau River Road, Kemptville, ON

The proposed dredging works at Pirate Cove Marina in Kemptville, Ontario are intended to address insufficient water depths at the entrance to the marina basin, which are currently causing vessels to bottom out and limiting safe public access from the Rideau River. The defined dredge area will be excavated to a target depth of 6 feet below the established navigational water level. Dredging will be carried out using hydraulic removal methods with an excavator positioned on a stable working platform constructed of cubic metre geotextile bags filled with clear stone, allowing the equipment to safely access and reach the required dredge extents. The work area will be fully isolated using turbidity curtains, and all necessary erosion and sediment control measures will be implemented to ensure no sediment or soil migration into the adjacent open waterway. A Basic Impact Assessment is to be complete, highlighting key precautionary measures. All dredged materials will be temporarily stockpiled on-site in a controlled manner until conditions are suitable for transport and proper disposal.

Latest update

April 1, 2026 – Parks Canada intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Parks Canada is inviting public comments until May 1, 2026 respecting that determination.
