Upgrades at Richardson Beach, City of Kingston, Lake Ontario

Located at a popular waterfront park, swimming, windsurfing and paddle boarding destination, the Richardson Beach shoreline improvement project will protect the existing shoreline from erosion and intensifying storm events and high water with new stone revetment, berms and a renovation of the existing concrete steps and walls. The project will include improvements to the existing public gathering spaces and improved access to the water for park users wanting to wade, for swimmers, for windsurfers and for persons with disabilities. The naturally occurring cobble/pebble beach at this site will be improved with the addition of a more gradual edge at the shoreline and by improved pebble retention due to the new stone revetments. The grading of the existing grass landscape will be improved. A large historic underground sanitary sewer will be protected with shoreline improvements as part of this project. The project is expected to begin in 2021 and be completed in 2022.
