Project summary

The National Capital Commission (NCC) plans to replace an existing comfort station (which includes a lifeguarding unit) located near the main parking lot entrance to the public beach at Gatineau Park's La Pêche Lake, near Masham in the Municipality of Pontiac, Quebec. The La Pêche Lake beach is a public beach owned and operated by the NCC.

The new comfort station is being built because the existing building is at the end of its life cycle. It will be constructed within the footprint of the current building, with a new design to mitigate flooding impacts.

The design will have a total footprint area of about 360 m2, and will include a new facility, a universally accessible pedestrian access route, and adjacent landscape areas with new trees and shrubs. To support the operation of the building, including regular cleanout of the sanitary tanks, a 75-metre stone dust access road for service trucks will be built from the beach parking lot to the new building. The new facility will be raised about one metre above the existing grade, using clean imported fill, which will reduce the risk of flooding.

Construction schedule
Construction for the project is planned for summer–fall 2021.
