Town of Smiths Falls Multi-Use Trail Widening

The Town of Smiths Falls is proposing to rehabilitate and widen an existing trail in Smiths Falls Ontario, from the Beckwith Street Bridge on the Combined Lockstation grounds to a point approximately 400 m to the east. This is Phase 1 of the pathway expansion, with additional phases potentially coming in the future should funding become available. The trail follows the shoreline and crosses an existing pedestrian bridge over a small stream that inlets to the Rideau Canal. The existing trail is being rehabilitated to meet Ontario Traffic Manual Book 18 requirements for multi-use trails to provide a safe four-season pathway for pedestrians and cyclists. The existing pathway is stone dust and periodically has sink holes developing, creating tripping hazards and maintenance requirements. The path is being widened 2.5 - 3.0 m and will be surfaced in either asphalt or crushed limestone (to be determined).

The project will also be assessed by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.
