Mooney's Bay Park Beach Pump Electrical Service Upgrade

This project is intended to upgrade the electrical service to the beach water circulation pumps which are housed to the far south of the Mooney's Bay Park. This upgrade includes a new transformer and new electrical equipment to feed the beach water circulation pumps.

Part of the construction work for this project will be carried out on leased National Capital Commission (NCC) land and is subject to federal land use, design and approval under the National Capital Act.

The work to be carried out for this project includes:

  • Installation of a new concrete shelter to house the upgraded electrical equipment
  • Replacement of cement transformer base
  • Installation of a concrete bunker and bollards
  • Excavation, trenching and installation of a duct bank
  • Backfilling and topsoil replacement
  • Site reinstatement and seeding

The new concrete structure, cement transformer base and concrete bunker will be built within the fenced off parcel of land where the existing electrical service and equipment are located. To minimize changes on the landscape, the rest of the excavation and trenching will occur within the previously disturbed soil of the existing electrical cable. Portions of the excavation work will be monitored by an Archaeologist.

Construction work is set to begin in November 2024. Activities related to excavation and backfilling will be completed prior to April, while the remaining activities will be concluded in May. All construction areas will be properly cordoned off from public access, and will abide by all municipal by-laws, including noise levels.

No tree removals are anticipated as a result of the project. Protective measures will be used to prevent and avoid damage to tree root systems.
