Rockcliffe Control Station Relocation Project

Niagara Gas Transmission Limited (Niagara Gas) is proposing to construct a new control station approximately 190 metres (m) southeast from the current station in Ottawa, Ontario, in a location more suited for its continued safe and reliable operation. The project involves:

  • Installation of 350 m of 16-inch diameter natural gas pipeline, inlet and outlet valves at the new station, a regulator building with regulator equipment, a remote terminal unit building to house the communication equipment, and fencing around the new station site.
  • Removal of the current station and all above-ground components from the existing site.
  • Decommissioning in place of approximately 47 m of existing 12-inch diameter pipeline.

The project is located mainly on federal National Capital Commission (NCC) land, with a small portion located on private land. The proposed new station would be situated within a footprint of approximately 20 m x 23 m in the open space on NCC land at the southeast corner of Rue Tennis. The new pipeline would be installed on both NCC and private land from the new station north along Rue Tennis and east along Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway to the existing pipeline approximately 60 m west of Hillsdale Road. The existing station to be decommissioned and removed is located on NCC land approximately 25 m south of Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway and 50 m west of Hillsdale Road. Project construction is anticipated to start in the second quarter of 2027 for a duration of approximately six months.
