New Fibre Installation

 

Bell Canada plans to install submarine fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to residential homes in Knowlton Lake, Draper Lake, Soth Bay, Buck Lake, Battersea Lake, Little Cranberry Lake and Lost Bay. The project involves the submarine fibre optic installation of approximately 0.7 km in Knowlton Lake, 1km in Draper Lake, 0.5 km in South Bay, 0.97 km in Buck Lake, 0.92 km in Battersea Lake, 1.61 km in Little Cranberry Lake and 0.3 km in Lost Bay.

Notice of Determination

August 14, 2025 - Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • relevant potential environmental effects;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation and monitoring measures taken into account for this determination included active and adaptive management measures that would be implemented for the protection of the local environment. Based on the consideration of these measures, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
