Site Office Exterior Columns Review and Repair

Consultant to review the existing exterior columns supporting the 2nd floor kitchenette and roof overhang (structural and non-structural) located at the Transport Canada site office, within the Pickering Lands site.  Intrusive investigation is required to review the columns supporting the 2nd floor kitchenette (structural) in order to determine if columns are compromised, along with design and construction of repair or replacement options.  Intrusive investigation is also required for 3 columns supporting the roof overhang (non-structural) in order to determine if the columns are compromised and provide design and construction repair or replacement options.  The destructive roof overhang column investigation is to aid in determining a generalized strategy to be used to design, repair or replace the remaining untested columns, which should also be reviewed by the consultant.  Intrusive investigation should include exposing the footings of the columns in order to determine if existing footing requires repair or replacement, before columns are repairs or replaced, while providing full repair or replacement details.  The existing deck structure should also be reviewed along with providing options for repair, replacement or removal.  Due to the presence of Barn Swallow (Species at Risk) nests, and the typical re-use of these nests, a Mitigation Measures Form will be completed.
