2025 Septic System Replacements

The purpose of this project is to decommission six failing residential sewage disposal systems and replace them with new septic systems to prevent potential risk to groundwater and human health at tenanted properties within Rouge National Urban Park. The failing septic systems will be pumped and backfilled and pits approximately 2.0 metres deep will be excavated to contain the new septic and pump tanks. Trenches will be excavated between the dwellings, septic tanks, pump tanks and leaching beds to install underground pipe systems. The area for the leaching beds will be excavated to various depths and surface areas, depending on the site. Some vegetation clearing is expected to facilitate the work, with the potential for tree cutting at one of the sites. During this work, temporary silt fence barriers will be installed at necessary sites, and topsoil will be stockpiled locally. The new septic systems will comply with the 2012 Ontario Building Code and will have expected minimum service lives of 25 years provided trees, shrubs, and vegetation with deep roots are controlled.
