Port of Oshawa - West Wharf Storm Water Management, Surfacing, and New Access Gate

The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority is proposing to improve the existing storm water management infrastructure and surfacing on the West Wharf at the Port of Oshawa. 

The project involves regrading and asphalt surfacing of the existing site to ensure proper drainage. Decommissioning of current stormwater infrastructure and the installation of new storm sewers, manholes, catch-basins, and an oil/grit separator will improve the discharge quality of the stormwater. The stormwater outfall to the harbour will be replaced as part of this work. Electrical and communication systems will be upgraded to support future development. The existing light towers will be removed and reconstructed, with dark sky lighting principles incorporated into the design wherever possible. The vehicular entrance will be relocated to the north end of the site at the intersection of Simcoe Street South and Lakeview Park Avenue, featuring a gated entrance for security. This relocation will create a more pedestrian-friendly environment, minimizing congestion near cultural and recreational facilities.

July 11th, 2025 - The public comment period on the project is closed. The Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
