98 Manitoba Street Environmental Remediation

The planned work at 98 Manitoba Street in Bracebridge, Ontario involves the demolition of the existing federal building and remediation of impacted soil and groundwater beneath the structure at depth. In-situ thermally assisted multi-phase vacuum extraction will be used to remediate the property to meet the remedial objectives. Following remediation, the site will be restored with compacted backfill. The project will be completed in 3 phases. The first phase (building demolition) is scheduled to begin in summer 2026. The second phase (remediation) is scheduled to beginin spring/summer 2027. The third phase (long-term monitoring) is scheduled to begin in spring 2029.

April 9, 2026 – The authority intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, the authority is inviting public comments until May 9, 2026 respecting that determination.
