Downsview Community Recreation Centre

 

The Downsview Community Recreation Centre is a CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Design Standard V3 facility. This facility offers the community a wide range of programs and services to improve and ensure access to quality recreational activity. The centre will also include multi-purpose spaces, seniors and youth lounges, dedicated Indigenous program space, outdoor amenities including exterior nature-based play areas, and connections and expansion to an existing community garden. Downsview was determined to be a long term opportunity for a new community Recreation Centre. The proposed facility will serve two Neighbourhood Improvement Areas (Downsview-Roding-CFB, and York University Heights and Glenfield-Jane Heights), and is intended to service anticipated future growth, filling gaps in distribution of existing facilities, balancing service provision equitably, enhancing accessibility for those in need, capacity to meet demand, and strengthening communities.

[March 20, 2025] – The public comment period on the project is closed. The authority is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
