Chip plant demolition - 8501 Ontario Street

The proposed project

Howe Sound Pulp & Paper Corporation proposes to demolish above ground structures that formed part of the chip plan operations at their site located at 8501 Ontario Street, Vancouver, BC. Demolition is required to fulfill VFPA lease obligations in order to vacate the site. The overall project is split into two phases – Phase 1: demolition of above grade infrastructure and buildings; Phase 2: Remediation and any final end-state requirements. This project review is for Phase 1 activities, which consist of the demolition of the following above-grade infrastructure:

  • Debarker
  • Chipper building
  • 12.5 KV transformer building
  • Chip screening building
  • Rechipper
  • Spare transformer
  • Shed structures and waste oil tank
  • Scow loading belt and associated reclaim conveyor
  • Encroached buildings: admin building (site office), maintenance ship, lube storage
