Heidelberg Materials Shoreline Repair

Heidelberg Materials Canada Limited (Heidelberg) proposes to conduct works to stabilize an eroding stretch of shoreline along the south bank of the Fraser River Heidelberg's Surrey Depot generally located at 12366 Musqueam Drive, Surrey BC. The shoreline stabilization will require the removal of an existing creosote timber pile wall and eight mature trees along the Fraser River shoreline. The eroding shoreline will be regraded and armoured using filter rock overlaid with riprap. Eight cedar root wads will be installed along the project shoreline to provide habitat cover for fish.

The Project consists of the following:

  • Mobilization and staging of equipment and machinery along the shore
  • Removal of an existing creosote timber pile wall and eight cottonwood trees along the shoreline
  • Localized excavation on the shoreline to a benched elevation for machinery work platform
  • Slot cutting excavation and installation of filter rock and riprap during low tide windows
  • Replacement of benched material and shoreline protection up to original grades
  • Installation of eight tree root wads for fish habitat cover
  • Installation of new drive barriers (lock block or no-post barriers)
  • Site demobilisation and clean up.

The works are proposed to take place from the landside with no marine staging required. To the extent possible, works below the highwater mark would be carried out during the lowest tides, therefore tidally dependent work may be done outside of normal working hours. The Project works are proposed to take place in 2025 and be during the Fraser River least-risk timing window (June 16 to Feb 28).
