Drainage Pump Station H Replacement at Vancouver International Airport

The Vancouver Airport Authority is proposing to replace the drainage pump station and floodbox known as Floodbox H. Floodbox H is located on the north shoreline of Sea Island at the north end of Macdonald Road at the north arm of the Fraser River. The project area is approximately 6,000 m2. Project activities will include the following components:

  • Installation of a temporary coffer dam system to isolate the work area;
  • Demolish and remove the existing pump station, floodbox, discharge pipes, and associated headwall structures;
  • Install new pump station modules with new pumps and electrical kiosk;
  • Install two new discharge pipes;
  • Relocate the existing water quality monitoring station;
  • Expand the forebay footprint to accommodate the new pump station;
  • Install new concrete floodbox pipe culverts with inlet and outlet headwalls;
  • Install new top-mounted flap gates on the floodbox outlet to the Fraser River;
  • Place riprap armouring around the floodbox outlet headwall and discharge pipe outlet headwall for energy dissipation and to prevent erosion; and
  • Reinstate and raise the existing dike to an elevation of 4.7 m geodetic.
