Recreational dock dredging - 5345 Indian River Drive

The proposed project

The project includes dredging of up to 2-metres of accumulated sediment around a recreational dock at the above noted property to prevent structural damage. The sediment accumulated during a late-2024 weather event which caused debris to flow down an adjacent stream and fill in the area around the project site's recreational dock.

The works include mobilizing a long-reach excavator to the foreshore, digging along the impacted side of the dock, and removing up to 1,000-cubic metres of sediment. The sediment would be placed upland, off port jurisdiction, for reuse in landscaping or upland disposal pending approval from the District of North Vancouver.

An Environmental Monitor will be on site during the works to ensure no impacts to fish or marine mammals, and to conduct turbidity monitoring of the exclusion zone. Sediment controls will be in place if deemed necessary.

The excavator will be upland in the dry, and works will take place during low tide only. No other in-water works are proposed, and no works related to the recreational dock are included in this application. The proposed project will take place within the least-risk fisheries window of August 16 - February 28 and will take 2-5 days to complete.

End of public comment period

The public comment period on the project is closed. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
