Annacis Island shoreline rehabilitation

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority – Engineering and Asset Management, are proposing to rehabilitate approximately 5,415 square metres of shoreline protection at Annacis Island to increase resiliency and provide ongoing protection from erosion. The proposed works include:

  • Site preparation, involving the removal of invasive plant species, shrubs, unwanted debris, existing riprap and a select number of trees required for equipment access, followed by slope grading
  • Placement of new shoreline protection materials, including geotextile fabric, filter rock, and riprap
  • Placement of new concrete slabs in two areas, totaling approximately 1,700 square metres, including geotextile fabric, filter rock, and reinforced precast concrete slabs
  • Installation of a vegetated bench along approximately 450 metres of the new shoreline to offset project impacts
  • Restoration and enhancement along approximately 925 metres of an existing vegetated bench, including, the removal and management of invasive species and the planting of native vegetation in the riparian and intertidal zones to offset project impacts

Due to tidal fluctuations some shoreline works may need to be conducted outside of standard construction hours.
