Replacement of BC Hydro Electrical Transformer

BC Hydro is proposing to replace an existing electrical transformer at the Vancouver International Airport. The project consists of removing the existing transformer and concrete pad followed by installation of a new concrete base and a new 50KVA transformer.  Project activities will consist of civil and electrical works to replace and operate the transformer.  A short length of underground electrical conduit and cable will need to be replaced to connect the new transformer, approximately 5m from the transformer.  The project footprint is less than 10 sq meters.  The project is located at 6090 Russ Baker Way in Richmond, British Columbia.

Richmond, B.C. - 26 April 2021 - Vancouver Airport Authority has determined that the proposed Replacement of BC Hydro Electrical Transformer is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination include:

  • All work to be conducted in compliance with the Vancouver Airport Authority Environmental Construction Standards.
  • The contractor must have a Spill Prevention and Response Plan in place prior to the start of work.

Vancouver Airport Authority is satisfied that carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. 

Therefore, Vancouver Airport Authority will carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
