Russell Island Trail and Pit Toilet Project

Upgrade parts of the existing trail, located on the east side of the Maria Mahoi house at 48.74961745N, -123.407847W, extending northeast to the clam garden, levelling and proper sloping of the section of the path nearest to the beach by adding gravel to address safety and mobility concerns. Trail improvement includes the replacement of an existing handrail by hammering aluminum posts into the ground for a new handrail, with posts installed every 6 feet. A new toilet will be installed at 48.74837989N, -123.40915W, to create a closer access point from the clam garden site while the current toilet will be decommissioned once the new toilet is operational. Existing signage will be replaced, or updated with potential for new signage at the direction of First Nation partners. Preference is for current signage to be updated and to use existing aluminum posts.

This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
