Shoreline rehabilitation - Roberts Bank Causeway

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Engineering proposes urgent rehabilitation works to approximately 700 metres of shoreline protection along a section of the Roberts Bank Causeway in Delta, BC. The shoreline has been identified as nearing its end of service life. It is no longer functioning as intended, especially following emergency repairs caused by the 2021 and 2022 storm events, which damaged the rail system and infrastructure.

Shoreline rehabilitation works would consist of the installation of 700 by 15 metres rubble mound riprap with a swale and crest designed to prevent overtopping by waves that could damage the rail system and infrastructure.

The repairs are considered urgent due to the potential risk of the retaining wall failing during potential winter storms, which could cause environmental impacts on the surrounding marine environment, infrastructure, and rail system failure.

The Project is anticipated to take two months in January 2025.
