Project Type: Expand Current Gravel Parking Lot

The BC Aviation Museum is expanding an existing gravel parking lot.  The project is contained to leased lands.

Construction activities include general excavation, soil characterization and on-site permanent soil relocation, expansion of the current gravel parking lot, and associated drainage. The project will generally occur during normal business hours. 

The project is located airside on the eastern region of the airport.  Construction activities are not expected to affect airport operations. 

Site preparation activities will include preparation of an Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) for the project with Environmental Monitors acting on behalf of the Proponent.  Erosion and sediment control measures to protect nearby surface water environments will be included in the EPP.  Indigenous Cultural Monitors will be notified of all ground disturbance activities and will be invited to observe subsurface material excavations during construction.

Notice of Determination

The public comment period on this project is closed.  The VAA has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • Impacts on the rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • Community knowledge;
  • Comments received from the public; and
  • Technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
  • Development and approval of a site-specific Environmental Protection Plan
  • Involvement of local First Nation Cultural Monitors during ground disturbance activities
