The project involves the installation of ten signs adjacent to YYJ's "Flight Path" multi use recreational pathway.  Signs will represent planets, and the sun installed at proportional distances as they exist in the universe.  Signage will inspire and educate victors to learn about earth, and our ecosystems. Signage installation will include drilling shallow pilot boreholes for concrete installation with minimal ground disturbance. 

A minor-works environmental impact evaluation will be completed for each installation area. Construction activities will occur during normal business hours and no impacts to traffic are anticipated. 

The project is located groundside, along the perimeter of the airport.  The project is fully contained on an existing lease and construction activities are not expected to affect airport operations.  Access to the flight path multi use path may be obstructed for short periods of time.

Indigenous Cultural Monitors will be notified of all ground disturbance activities and will conduct investigation of subsurface materials during construction.

Latest update

The public comment period on this project is closed.  The VAA has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • Impacts on the rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • Community knowledge;
  • Comments received from the public; and
  • Technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
  • Development and approval of a site-specific Environmental Protection Plan
  • Involvement of local First Nation Cultural Monitors during ground disturbance activities
