Mómeqwem Multi-Use Pathway and McLennan Creek Active Transportation Crossing, Province of British Columbia

The Mómeqwem Multi-Use Pathway and McLennan Creek Active Transportation Crossing, Province of British Columbia Project (the Project) involves 4 project components that will support the creation of a safe, comfortable, and continuous active transportation network.

Project Component 1 - Multi-Use Pathway Upgrades Parallel to Harris Road Scope of Work:

  • Upgrading the existing (~850 m long) 1.5 metre wide walking pathway to a 3.0 metre multi-use pathway parallel to Harris Road between Flora Lane and 31717 Harris Rd / the western extent of the trail;
  • widening the existing culverts to accommodate a wider pathway;
  • installation of new signage and pavement markings to identify this section as a multi-use pathway;
  • installation of pathway lighting and potential landscaping improvements;
  • construction of a new raised crosswalk with pavement markings at the Martin Way intersection; and
  • construction of a new 2 m sidewalk extension from the pathway to a residential property (31851 Harris Road).

Project Component 2 - Multi-Use Pathway From Trans Canada Trail To Flora Lane Scope of Work:

  • installation of new active transportation 25 m long, 3m wide bridge crossing over McLennan Creek (note: the bridge crossing will be erected via crane after the pier and two abutments are built);
  • construction of a new ~250 m long, 3.0 m wide multi-use pathway connecting Flora Lane to the Matsqui Community Building and the TransCanada Trail, and construction of a new connection to the community building located to the west;
  • installation of pathway lighting, signage, and pavement markings; and
  • installation of benches.

Project Component 3 - Creekside Walking Pathway:

  • construction of a new ~210 m long, 2.0 metre wide walking pathway;
  • installation of pathway lighting, signage, and pavement markings; and
  • installation of benches.

Project Component 4 - Flora Lane Sidewalk:

  • construction of a new 2.0 m sidewalk along the north side of Flora Lane that extends from the roundabout (connecting to the existing active transportation bridge and the proposed multi-use pathway) to Glenmore Road; and
  • installation of additional street lighting, pathway signage and landscaping improvements.

All project components will take place on reserve lands of Matsqui First Nation. The total size of the project area is ~5,100 metres squared (m2). Project components will occur on both developed and previously disturbed land and will require clearing of ~2,000 m2 of previously vegetated land. The Project involves ~3700 m2 of excavation and works in/over water.
