Shell Beach Erosion Control Project, Portland Island

Ongoing monitoring by Parks Canada and First Nations has shown severe erosion at Shell Beach on Portland Island. Parks Canada is proposing a shoreline restoration project to reduce the levels of erosion. The work will involve a soft-armouring approach to dissipate wave action and the revegetation of native plants to further stabilize the shoreline. Parks Canada will complete a basic impact assessment to assess the proposed project's potential impacts to natural and cultural resources. The impact assessment will incorporate standard and site-specific measures to avoid and minimize potential impacts to natural and cultural resources.
