Canso Trail Improvements 2025

The Canso Bomber Trail Improvements project will enhance access to the Canso A bomber crash site while protecting sensitive natural and cultural features. Planned upgrades include: Installing ~100 meters of new boardwalk over bog areas not yet or not sufficiently covered. Building three viewing platforms: at the crater, below the wreck, and level with the wreck. Constructing a staircase rising 12 meters vertically over 30.5 meters horizontally. Improving the forest trail by clearing woody debris, removing mud, and stabilizing the tread with native materials. Before construction begins, Parks Canada will complete a Basic Impact Assessment to identify and reduce potential environmental and cultural impacts including seeking additional engagement with Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation.
