Cyprus/Cameron Pedestrian Bridge Replacement

There are two short-span pedestrian bridges that provide access across the river between Cameron Lake and Cyprus Lake. These bridges are part of the popular Cyprus Lake loop trail. They were originally constructed over 30 years ago, prior to the establishment of the National Park, and have been maintained up to the present day. The bridges use wood log girders and wood/stone cribs as foundations. However, all components of the bridges have reached the end of their lifespan, and maintenance is no longer feasible. The structural components, including the girders and cribs, have decayed to a point where failure is imminent if not addressed.

After reviewing various options such as relocation, alternative material types, and assessing potential impacts, the proposal is to replace the bridge structures with similar ones. This means that the footings/cribs would be in the same locations as before, and a wooden girder/beam structure would be used. The plan is to maintain the same length, width, and usage standards.

The bridge structure and cribs will be demolished and reconstructed in staggered stages. This will be done following appropriate timing windows and other mitigation practices to avoid and minimize impacts on the wetland and aquatic habitat, and their associated species of conservation concern and fish.
