Flowerpot Marl Bed Trail Restoration

This project involves the removal of 90 metres of boardwalk, three trail signs, and all mile marker signs along the Marl Bed Trail on Flowerpot Island, as well as the placement of natural deadfall and debris to camouflage the trail entrance. Due to the unique habitats and species found along the trail, and the impacts of visitor use (e.g., the creation of social trails), it was determined that the trail should be permanently closed and allowed to passively restore to a natural state. To support this, trail infrastructure will be manually removed in a manner that minimizes disturbance to surrounding habitats and wildlife. Boardwalk sections will be cut into manageable pieces and carried out by hand for disposal. All work will remain within the existing trail footprint, and posts and signage will be removed manually to eliminate remaining infrastructure while limiting ground disturbance.
