Replacement of a navigation aid at Île de la Poterie

The Canadian Coast Guard plans to replace the navigation aid at Île de la Poterie, as the existing aid at the end of the dock poses a safety hazard to maintenance personnel. The new steel structure will be built on land, approximately 150 meters west of the original location.

The work site is located on Caron Island in Trois-Rivières, which is owned by Kruger Wayagamack Inc. paper mill.

The work includes the installation of four (4) screw piles on which a reinforced concrete slab measuring 2.44 m on each side will be built. The new steel tower will rest on this concrete slab and will have a total height of 9.18 meters. At the top of the tower, a reference light navigation aid will be installed.

Foundation work is scheduled between February and March 2026 for an estimated duration of two (2) weeks. During construction, an excavator, a drill, material transport trucks, and a concrete truck will be required on site.

A geotechnical study and environmental characterization of the site have already been carried out by the CCG to ensure the proper management of excavated materials, in accordance with current regulations.
