Québec Bridge: surface preparation and painting of the Québec Bridge structure (2024-2025 program)

Description- Since 1917, the Québec Bridge has linked Lévis and Québec City. Its total length is 987 m, while the distance between its main pillars is 549 m. The Québec Bridge consists of a  9.17 m wide roadway deck, a 1.32 m wide sidewalk and a railway deck.

Since November 2024, The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) has been the superficies owner of the Québec Bridge structure, while Canadian National (CN) is the superficies owner of the railway deck, and the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec (MTMD) is responsible for the roadway deck, including the sidewalk.

This contract was awarded by CN in 2024 and transferred to JCCBI following the acquisition of the Québec Bridge by the federal government. The aim is to carry out painting work and replace some steel in the bridge structure at multiple locations. The work was initiated in 2024 by CN, and will be taken over by JCCBI from March 2025 until the winter of 2025-2026.

The work will require the installation of scaffolding suspended beneath the structure of the Québec Bridge. Steel parts may also need to be replaced or repaired. There is no concrete-related work.

This work may require a number of traffic closures. Traffic hindrances could include full or partial, day or night, weekend or long-term closures, and shoulder closures. Detour routes will be provided for complete closures, if necessary, in collaboration with MTMD, which is responsible for mobility on the Québec Bridge.
