The Epekwitk Mena'taqug Centre

The proposed project involves the construction of a multi-purpose 8,295  sq. foot building that will have space devoted to employment services and Skills Partnership Fund (SPF), an artisan market space for Social Enterprise, Epekwitk Lanyards, demonstration and retail space for Social Enterprise Projects and local artisans, commercial kitchen for Social Enterprise - Epekwitk Gardens and preserves to prepare preserves for retain, cater meetings, events as well as food service window in peak tourism season, satellite office space for Mi'kmaq Confederacy of PEI and professional office space for Abegweit First Nation. The aim of the project is to provide an opportunity for local people to work and create on the reserve with an opportunity to sell in the retail space. It will improve access and increase the quality of cultural and community infrastructure for Indigenous peoples living in PEI.

Notice of Determination

 

Feburary 5, 2021 –  Infrastructure Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
