Ross Lane - Stanhope campground road extension, Prince Edward Island National Park

Stanhope campground is accessible through a single point on the Gulf Shore Parkway East. Following the impact of Hurricane Fiona, this section of the Gulf Shore Parkway was found to be more vulnerable to coastal erosion. This project aims at establishing a service road access on the back side of the campground for emergency. The new access road is being proposed to link the eastern end of Ross Lane with the westerly loop of the Stanhope Campground. The new road will have a footprint no larger than 16 meters by 55 meters. The existing vegetation on the proposed road-bed area will be removed. The area will be excavated to a maximum depth of 1 meter and infilled with shale to build the road profile. The project is exploring the option of surfacing the area with 50-100mm of gravel topped with compacted asphalt millings but may leave the area as a shale surface. Archeological and cultural assessment are currently under way. The project will be completed outside of the operational season of the National Park.
