George's Island National Historic Site Visitor Development

The project proposes to significantly enhance and expand visitor access to George's Island National Historic Site in Halifax Harbour. Visitor usage of the island is anticipated to increase from <1,000 to ~20,000 per year. A range of measures to support visitors to the island will include: vegetation management (grass & brush cutting), fencing (to limit access to hazardous areas), installation of interpretation panels and installation of visitor amenities (picnic areas, benches, garbage cans).
