Dartmouth Cove Waterfront Infill

4197847 Nova Scotia Limited is proposing to infill an area of 2.7 ha in Dartmouth Cove, Nova Scotia with material from local excavation projects. As proposed, the infill material would include non-acidic quarry rock and pyritic slate, a substance which can produce acidic runoff if exposed to air. The purpose of the project is for the infilled area to provide enhanced waterfront access and land that will eventually enable future development.

Latest update

February 28, 2025 — On April 16, 2024, a member of the public submitted a request to designate the Dartmouth Cove Waterfront Infill Project (the project). At that time, the Minister’s discretionary authorities to designate projects were paused. On January 19, 2025, the same member of the public requested to re-open the request to designate the project. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada’s Vice President of Operations, on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has responded to the request to designate the project. The project cannot be designated under the Impact Assessment Act. The reasons are provided in the Vice President of Operation’s response.
