Development of Hangars in the Quick Reaction Area – 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. The Department of National Defence is proposing the construction of a hangar and aircraft access road connected to the East Ramp at the Quick Reaction Area at 4 Wing Cold Lake property in Cold Lake, Alberta. The proposed development will consist of a new aircraft hangar and integrating it with the existing airfield network through paved aircraft access routes. Associated works include excavation, grading, drainage controls, utility connections, security fencing, area lighting, and provisions for site power for the training pad and security cameras.

March 3, 2026 – The public comment period on the project is closed. The Department of National Defence is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
