Construction of Two Bridge Files in Saddle Lake Cree Nation

The proposed project will involve resizing (increased diameter) and replacing two culverts along the NS Road, the main arterial road on the Nation. The culverts convey water from Stony Creek and Saddle Lake Creek, respectively. The upsizing of culverts will allow a greater quantity of flow to pass safely under the roadway during high precipitation periods and snow melt season. The upsizing of culverts will allow the continued use of the NS Road for all users including essential services. This will enable the community to continue to access their residences in the event of a high precipitation period.

Objective:

The purpose of this project is to mitigate the risk of the culverts failure due to flooding and the aging of the infrastructure. Additionally, the project will utilize culverts which are sized to reduce the impact of climate change on the road infrastructure.

2022-12-25– The public comment period on the project is closed. Infrastructure Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
