Walk Into History

Pelican Lake First Nation is proposing to develop a cycling and walking trails on their reserve lands. The Project will benefit the community by increasing connectivity between community areas/services and promoting tourism. The Project includes a new trail (Pelican Lake Trail) and upgrades and repairs to an existing trail (Lac Eauclaire Trail) in Chitek Lake, SK. The surface of the trails will be made of a crushed, granular material.

Project works include:

  • New trail (~ 5 km long)
  • Upgrades to existing trail (~ 8 km long)
  • Earthworks
  • Vegetation clearing and tree planting
  • Addition of picnic tables, benches, and signage

The Project involves works near Clearwater Lake, Chitek Lake, and wetlands. Earthwork, grading, and vegetation clearing will also be required. The Project will take place on federal lands (Chitek Lake IR No. 191 and Pelican Lake IR No. 191-C) and has requirements under section 82 of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA).

March 24, 2025 - Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the proposed Walk Into History Project is not likely to cause signficant adverse environmental effects.
