Waterhen Lake First Nation Solid Waste Transfer Station

Waterhen Lake First Nation is proposing to construct a new solid waste transfer station approximately 2 km east of the core community, along 'Old Sawmill Road' which is the same road leading to the existing landfill, which is planned to be closed and decommissioned in the coming years. The proposed location of the transfer station consists mostly of cleared land due to former logging and sawmill operations. The size of the site is estimated to be 140 m x 65m with the ability to expand to the north or east. The facility would consist of a grade separated RO bin drop off station, large item disposal areas for white metals, tires, and wood, corrugated steel shipping container for temporary storage of used paint, oils, and batteries, as well as operator trailer.

Waste and refuse resulting from construction will be removed from site by the contractor as soon as practicable and taken to an approved waste management facility, sent for recycling or sold for reuse where applicable and appropriate.
