Zagime Greenhouse

The Proposed Project

The Zagime Anishinabek Nation will be constructing a Greenhouse adjacent to Highway 47 in the Qu'Appelle valley located on Zagime I.R. #74-9 (portion of NW 1/4 19-18-6 W2M  and Zagime I.R. # 74-2 (portion of NE 1/4 24-19-7 W2M).  The Greenhouse will provide the Nation with a market to their members and surrounding neighbors as a sustainable, secure food source.  We will provide a variety of bedding plants which will consist mainly of vegetables. It is our hopes to become a year round operation.  The physical works require a 23 feet X 426 feet for a total of 9798 square feet Greenhouse to be constructed, complete with a secure fenced compound, drilled artesian well water source, approach, sewage works, parking, lighting (electrical), security, heating and SaskTel (communication) services.

The lifespan would be possibly 25 years or more, dependent upon future expansion. The heating source will be a 2000 gallon propane tank, buildings include a greenhouse and storage shed, garage, sewer lines to holding tank that will be pumped out as needed, power lines, communication lines. The approach permit will be requested from Ministry of Highways. The greenhouse will have a gravel bottom followed by sand covered by a rubber floor. 1 acre parking lot will be developed to support the facility. A storage shed to safely store chemicals and fertilizer will be located on-site.

August 30, 2021 - Indigenous Services Canada issued its notice of determination Notice of Determination for Zagime Greenhouse - Canada.ca (iaac-aeic.gc.ca) and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
